The decade of the 1960’s was a time of expansion for Saint Andre Home, with the legacy of Attorney Helen Cashman Hamel making possible the construction of a new wing, completed in 1965.

Unwed mothers began to receive obstetrical services at Notre Dame Hospital in 1963, and the clinic at Saint Andre’s was limited to post natal care. Hospital services were discontinued altogether in 1967.

In September of 1968, Sister Katherine Cronin became Saint Andre’s new Director. During her tenure unwed mothers began taking accredited high school courses in cooperation with the Biddeford Adult Education Department.
