Saint Andre Home Adoption Application
This is the first step in initiating the adoption process. If you meet the eligibility requirements, your application will be approved and the adoption process will begin.
The Adoption Information Packet
At our first meeting, you'll recieve information about our agency, the services we offer, fee schedules, parent references, and more. You will also be given the request forms necessary to begin the home study process.
Home Study Process
The law requires all adoptive parents to participate in a home study. You’ll have an experienced, licensed caseworker to guide you through the process.
The purpose of a home study is to educate, prepare, and gather information about you, the adoptive family. This includes interviews, home visits, and the necessary paperwork (medical and financial reports, background checks, references, etc.). At the end of this process, the caseworker files a home study report.
Selection
Saint Andre Home will guide you through the steps of selection. This is a time for waiting, especially with newborn babies. We will present your profile, along with the profiles of two or three other families to the birth mother, who will select a family from these profiles. The birth mother may wish to meet with you in our office, on a first name basis, along with her social worker and adoption supervisor. We will then work out the medical and legal details, keeping you informed every
step of the way.
Placement
Congratulations, you're parents! It's a momentous and exciting time and should be celebrated. As you wait anxiously for the birth or the release of the child, we will work on behalf of the birth mother to handle arrangements at the hospital or the setting for the release of the baby.
Post Placement
After you bring your baby home, we will return to your home for post placement visits. There are three post placement supervisory visits in a six month period, prior to the finalization of the adoption. These visits are required by the adoption laws of the State of Maine.
